The Challenge

In December 2022 our team, Rowmodels, will row 5000 km from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean, across the second largest ocean in the world, the Atlantic Ocean.

The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge is one of the toughest endurance competitions in the world. There are fewer people who have rowed across the Atlantic than have climbed Mount Everest.

The 2022 race will be the biggest fleet with expected 50 boats participating all from solos up to teams of five.

The teams come from all over the world with a majority from the UK and USA. Less than 20 % of Ocean rowers are female.

We have to row non-stop in shifts for as many days as it takes to cross the Atlantic. We have to take everything with us on the trip, because once we sail from La Gomera, we will most likely not meet any people on our trip until we arrive in Antigua.

We have to be in our boat 24 hours a day, every day. We have to eat, sleep, and go to the "toilet" (bucket) on this boat.

We will also be celebrating Christmas and New Year on the boat. Expected time is 40-50 days, the female world record for a trio boat is 42 days. We have to create our own little community on this journey and seize the conditions and challenges as they arise

  • 3 Danish women – first Danish female team to cross the Atlantic

  • Unsupported rowing race

  • Zero waste

  • Dec 12th 2022 to Jan 2023

  • Each rower burns an average of 5.000 calories a day

  • Teams battle with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and physical extremes inflicted by the race.

  • Each team will row in excess of 1.5 million oar strokes over the race
